A Small Change Behind the Scenes
I have made a quiet change behind the scenes of this site.
After a long and happy spell using Lektor, I have now moved the site to Astro with Pages CMS. The change is mostly infrastructural rather than visual: I wanted to keep the same design, tone, and structure, while making the process of adding new material just a little easier.
I should say clearly that I have a great deal of affection for Lektor. It served me very well. I liked its clarity, its calmness, and the fact that it comes from the same stable as Flask, Werkzeug, Click and so many others, and not least that it is written in Python. In many respects, it was a lovely fit for a personal site for someone who considers himself a Pythonista, even if most code he writes these days is via an agent.
Also this new setup is probably overkill for a blog on this scale. That is true. But it also lowers friction in small, practical ways. It makes drafting, editing, and publishing a little more straightforward, and I hope that this slight reduction in effort will translate into more frequent updates here.
So the site looks much the same, by design. But underneath, it now runs on a different stack:
- Astro for the site itself,
- Pages CMS for content management,
- with the same Tufte-inspired style sheets.
If you are reading this, the move has worked. I hope the main visible effect will not be technical at all. I hope it will simply be that I write here a bit more often.
